Investigation Training Course Providers

Considering a career in private investigation? To be eligible for a special private investigator licence you must complete a training course that meets the requirements of the state licensing authorities.

Examine the relevance, cost and value of available courses. There are some training organisations that rely on people's ignorance and false concepts about private investigation; they will extract exorbitant fees from overly keen "private eyes" without disclosing that their courses are not recognised by authorities.

The tags "accredited" or "registered training organisation" cannot always be taken as evidence of quality, relevance or value of a course. When considering a training provider, ask pointed and frank questions to be sure you will receive value for money and that you will be eligible to apply for a licence.

Several websites in Australia offer "private investigation courses" which imply that upon completion of these expensive courses one can work as a private investigator.

This may be true or it may be false.

To be eligible to obtain a licence to work as a private investigator you have to complete a recognised course provided by an accredited RTO, usually the Certificate III in Investigations. Check with your state's licensing authority about the facts.

Find out about licensing requirements in our resources section »

The training and licensing requirements vary from state to state and certainly from country to country. We recommend you consult your training organisation and/or the police service.

We have listed only RTOs who have an established good reputation and are properly accredited by authorities.

We do not receive commissions or any kind of benefits from any of the listed RTOs.
